The 14-part suite "Carnival of the Animals" ("Le Carnaval des Animaux"), the penultimate part of which is "Le cygne" (The Swan), was only published after the composer's death. However, there was a first performance in a private concert on March 9, 1886, with Camille Saint-Saëns and Louis Diémer at the piano.
