In 1845, a text was added to the piece, also known as the “Hohenfriedberg March”, for the first time. This was on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Hohenfriedberg, which took place near Striegau on June 4, 1745 during the Second Silesian War. Frederick the Great of Prussia (Frederick II) is sometimes cited as the composer, but this cannot be verified.
