In 1893, Erkko wrote the poem Jouluaatto, which begins with the lines "No onkos tullut kesä". In 1898 it was first published by Anna Sarlinin, including sheet music, in the collection Joululauluja-kokoelmassa (Christmas songs) and became a popular Christmas song in Finland.
