Amen
(1935)
English
The song, arranged as a gospel, certainly has older sources among the black population of the US southern states and there are different versions of the lyrics. However, Hogan and Davis registered the rights to it in 1935. The melody first became known to a wider audience in 1942 through the film “What's Cookin'”, where it was interpreted by Jane Frazee, Gloria Jean and The Andrews Sisters with Woody Herman and his Orchestra. Unfortunately there is no recording of this.
