A really successful parody on the Dire Straits hit. As a condition for using the song Mark Knopfler demanded to play the guitar part himself and his lawyers insisted that the original title "Money For Nothing" must be included unchanged in the song title.
The lyrics of the song are an only slightly modified version of the title song "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" from the TV series "The Beverly Hillbillies" by Paul Henning, which ran on CBS in the USA from 1962 to 1971. The famous guitar sequence in the song is played by Mark Knopfler himself.
