Song Highlight – Editor’s Pick
Almost everyone in the world is familiar with a 13-note sequence from this waltz by Spanish guitarist Francisco Tárrega: as a ringtone for cell phones and the audio logo of the Finnish company Nokia. In 1992, a rendition by Czech guitarist Lubomír Brabec was used as background music in the commercial for the Nokia 1011. The sequence was first used as the “Type 5” ringtone in January 1994 on the 2110 model. The numbering changed from model to model; in 1997, the ringtone was named “Grande valse”; starting in 1998, it was called “Nokia Tune.”

The ringtone's melody can be heard starting at 0:12 in the original song.
