Song View

Brewster Higley wrote the poem "My Western Home" in the early 1870s in Smith County, Kansas, and it was published in the Smith County Pioneer newspaper in 1874. Daniel Kelley, a friend of Higley's subsequently wrote the melody to it and the song became popular under the name "Home On The Range". It has been the official anthem of the state of Kansas since 1947.
