Song Vetsherni zvon (1828)

Language
Russian

The Russian text by Koslow is a free translation of the poem “Those Evening Bells” by Thomas Moore, which was published in 1818 in his collection “National Airs”. Kozlov's version first appeared in 1827 in the almanac “Северные цветы” (“Northern Flowers”) for the year 1828. There are vague indications that Alyabyev's composition may not have been written by him, but has roots in a Russian folk song. However, there is no concrete evidence of this.
