This dance and play song (a reel) is closely associated with the family of folk singer Jean Ritchie and was frequently sung in their community. Jean Ritchie herself stated that she never copyrighted it, as it originated from another source within the community. Everyone knew it. The music was transcribed by Marian Skein (presumably from the family circle), and the song was published in 1939 by Lynn Rohrbough of the Cooperative Recreation Service in Delaware, Ohio.
