The main part of the song was written and composed by Namsos singer and resistance fighter Oskar Hoddø in 1940. In 1941 the complete song was completed, including a four-line verse ('Langt i det ført bak fjellene blau...'), believed to have been written and composed by Christian Christensen, who, alongside Hoddø, owns both lyricist and composer rights to the song in TONO's catalog of works.
