The text, written in 1793 by Johann Martin Usteri, was released in his collection “Gedichte in gebundener und ungebundener Rede” by Orell, Füßli und Compagnie, Zurich. In 1795, Hans Georg Nägeli composed the melody, which was released in 1799 by the same publisher as “Lieder für Jung und Alt”.
