The title was first sung and whistled a cappella by Doris Day and Christopher Olsen in the 1956 film "The Man Who Knew Too Much". Near the end of the film, Doris Day sang the song solo and accompanied herself on the piano. This was partly accompanied by whistling the melody in the background, presumably by Christopher Olsen. The premiere of the film was on April 29, 1956 at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
