The authorship of this song is controversial, although most sources refer to the Tanzanian songwriter Adam Salim, who probably wrote the song in 1945/46. Also mentioned is Lucas Mututu from Kenya. The official rights are held by Fadhili William Mdawida, who first recorded the song together with his band Jambo Boys in 1960. This recording is currently not detectable, only subsequent editions.
