The song premiered in 1911 in the Nicolás Ruiz Espadero Hall of the Hubert de Blanck Conservatory in Havana, performed by tenor Mariano Menéndez. The exact date of the performance cannot be determined, but it is known that the song was not well received by the audience. In 1921, Roig sold the song, now titled “Quiéreme mucho,” for 5 Cuban pesos to the music store “Viuda de Carrera" in Havana. Roig used a poem by the poet Ramón Gollury for the lyrics of the first part, while the second part was written by Agustín Rodríguez.
